Folegandros island is one of them!<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\">A small &amp; quiet wonderful Greek island with an impressive Chora and great people!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\">It is in the Cyclades island complex, so be prepared for a bit of wind and have a jacket with you at night!<\/span><span class=\"x_xs1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2207 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/DF5E2C61-9FA4-4116-B0AB-8C9AAA9DDE16.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"562\" height=\"562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/DF5E2C61-9FA4-4116-B0AB-8C9AAA9DDE16.jpg 640w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/DF5E2C61-9FA4-4116-B0AB-8C9AAA9DDE16-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/DF5E2C61-9FA4-4116-B0AB-8C9AAA9DDE16-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 562px) 100vw, 562px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\">Let me start with some tips!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\">First, it\u2019s not an island with many villages to discover, there are 3 main settlements:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\">Chora<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\">the port called Karavostasis and<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\">Ano Meria which is actually a road with shops\/restaurants and rooms-to-let around.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\"><b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2213 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/CCABFD21-0828-4BBE-9141-2F9F76B7AAF1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"606\" height=\"606\" srcset=\"https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/CCABFD21-0828-4BBE-9141-2F9F76B7AAF1.jpg 640w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/CCABFD21-0828-4BBE-9141-2F9F76B7AAF1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/CCABFD21-0828-4BBE-9141-2F9F76B7AAF1-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 606px) 100vw, 606px\" \/>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"x_xs1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><b>ACCESS<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\">Ferry from Piraeus takes 8-10 hours to arrive and from Lavrion port 12-13 hrs and there is no access by airport making it less attractive to the eyes of some tourists and locals. But you can get there quicker like I did! How? Read below:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Angel\u2019s tip:<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">If you are bored of many hours in a ferry, take the plane from Athens or your city of origin to Santorini island &amp; then 50 minutes the ferry to Folegandros with @seajetsgr like I did. So beautiful, so calm, so romantic!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\">Full of cute small squares, shops, restaurants and bars. It is a must to stroll around day AND night and get lost in the alleys and the castle. Most of the \u201clife\u201d in the island is there! <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">Angel\u2019s tip:<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">for the above reasons and especially if you don\u2019t have a car or you have but you don\u2019t want to drive at night I totally recommend that you stay in Chora.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2265 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_7671-1440x1920.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"548\" height=\"730\" srcset=\"https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_7671-1440x1920.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_7671-300x400.jpg 300w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_7671-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_7671-800x1067.jpg 800w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_7671-rotated.jpg 1512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>ACCOMMODATION<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Many lovely hotels and rooms to let in Folegandros. Generally though I find them a bit overpriced.\u00a0I booked online &#8220;Kallisti&#8221; hotel and location was excellent.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Angel&#8217;s tip:<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">I totally recommend that you stay in Chora and book a few months in advance since the island is small. If you want a solitary accomodation check Ano Meria area.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2236\" style=\"width: 558px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2236\" class=\"wp-image-2236\" src=\"http:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GPTempDownload-3-1440x1080.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"548\" height=\"411\" srcset=\"https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GPTempDownload-3-1440x1080.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GPTempDownload-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GPTempDownload-3-1536x1152.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2236\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kallisti hotel, where I stayed, has a swimming pool as well.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"x_xs1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><b>BEACHES<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\">Beaches are not organized, have a tent or an umbrella with you to protect yourself from the sun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><strong><span class=\"x_xs1\">On the north:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><strong><span class=\"x_xs1\">Agkali:<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"x_xs1\"> a family friendly beach with parking and even a bus stop. It is not organized with sunbeds and umbrellas but there are some restaurants around and cafes. <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Angel&#8217;s tip:<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Agkali is the easiest beach since access is by car and there are restaurants around, that&#8217;s why it is usually crowded. Furthermore most of the boats start from here towards the rest of the beaches.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><strong><span class=\"x_xs1\">Fira:<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"x_xs1\">\u00a010 minutes on foot from Agkali with magnificent waters, some call it a nudist beach.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2225\" style=\"width: 604px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2225\" class=\"wp-image-2225\" src=\"http:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GPTempDownload-2-1440x1080.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"594\" height=\"446\" srcset=\"https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GPTempDownload-2-1440x1080.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GPTempDownload-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GPTempDownload-2-1536x1152.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 594px) 100vw, 594px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2225\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Galyfos beach<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><strong><span class=\"x_xs1\">Galyfos<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"x_xs1\">: 8 minutes walk from Agkali (from the opposite direction than Fira), pebbly with wonderful waters. <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong><span class=\"x_xs1\">Angel\u2019s tip<\/span><span class=\"x_xs1\">:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span class=\"x_xs1\">\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">there are some cute eco-friendly rooms to let there without electricity! How amazing?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><strong><span class=\"x_xs1\">Agios Nikolaos<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"x_xs1\"><strong>:<\/strong> the beach that you can reach after 15 minutes walk from Galyfos or with local boats from Agkali beach. I took the local boat one way and I paid 3 euros for 5 minutes, they depart every 30-60 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><strong><span class=\"x_xs1\">Livadaki<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"x_xs1\"><strong>:<\/strong> wonderful waters, take the boat from Agkali to reach this beach or walk from Ano Meria 45 minutes.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><b>Angel\u2019s tip:<\/b><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">I p<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">aid 14 euros round trip for the boat from Agkali to Livadaki, then Agios Nikolaos beach and back to Agkali beach.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><strong><span class=\"x_xs1\">Ambeli<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"x_xs1\"><strong>:<\/strong> Again on foot from Ano Meria or by car through a long dirt road and a footpath. <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Angel\u2019s tip<\/strong><\/span>: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">I think the best way to visit this spot, is by joining the boat tour of the island (day trip) via Diaplous travel, like I did! The difficult access in my opinion is not worth your time.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2217 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/C19C88F8-36DD-4F8F-8B8D-B795E9F6E6E8-1440x1080.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/C19C88F8-36DD-4F8F-8B8D-B795E9F6E6E8-1440x1080.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/C19C88F8-36DD-4F8F-8B8D-B795E9F6E6E8-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/C19C88F8-36DD-4F8F-8B8D-B795E9F6E6E8-1536x1152.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 539px) 100vw, 539px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><strong><span class=\"x_xs1\">On the East:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><strong><span class=\"x_xs1\">Katergo:<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"x_xs1\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>the most famous beach in the island, access either by boat from the port \u201cKaravostasis\u201d or on foot 30 minutes from \u201cLivadi\u201d area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\"><strong>Karavostasis<\/strong> (Chochlidia)<\/span><span class=\"x_xs1\">: family beach in the port with several trees providing shade.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\"><strong>Latinaki:<\/strong> Very small bay in front of the port.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\"><strong>Vitsentzou:<\/strong> difficult access, small one with crystal clear waters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\"><strong>Pountaki<\/strong>: small one, close to Livadi area like the 2 previous ones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\"><strong>Livadi<\/strong>: long beach with a bit of shade, accessible easily by car &#8211; nothing extraordinary but less crowded. Close to the camping of the island.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2243\" style=\"width: 593px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2243\" class=\"wp-image-2243\" src=\"http:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_8423-1-1440x1920.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"583\" height=\"777\" srcset=\"https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_8423-1-1440x1920.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_8423-1-300x400.jpg 300w, https:\/\/explorewithangel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_8423-1-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 583px) 100vw, 583px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2243\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Agkali beach<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"x_xp2\"><strong>Close to the port: (on foot)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp2\"><strong>Vardia<\/strong> beach: Long magnificent sandy beach outside (and pebbles inside), easy access since you park at the port and you just walk a few minutes to find the stairs that lead down to the beach!<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp2\"><strong>On the West:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp2\"><strong>Agios Georgios:<\/strong> dirt road by car 10 minutes or 45 minutes walk from Ano Meria<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp2\"><strong>Ligaria<\/strong>: Pebbly beach with a dirt road to get there 10 minutes by car from Ano Meria or on foot 45-50 minutes. (not so easy by scooter)<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp2\"><strong>On the South:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp2\"><strong>Serfiotiko<\/strong>: no sand, on foot 15-25 minutes from Ano Meria (not an easy trail) or by boat if you are lucky and the island is not affected by north winds. You may be alone there! <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">Angel\u2019s tip:<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> have hiking shoes with you, not ideal for kids.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp2\"><strong>Vorina<\/strong>: on foot 20-25 minutes from the footpath starting from Agia Paraskeui church and Ag. Saranta .<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"x_xs1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><b>CAR<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\">A car\/motorcycle is not absolutely necessary in the island since the access in many beaches is by boat &amp; there is a local bus with regular schedules. It is very helpful though. If you don\u2019t rent a car though, stay in Chora in order to avoid the transportation during night. <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Angel\u2019s tip:<\/strong> <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Call the car rental companies before booking online since they may give you better price through phone or an extra discount. I used Kountouris car rentals. Link <a href=\"https:\/\/kountouriscarrentals.gr\/\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>FYI bus connecting the port with the Chora starts around 08:30 am till midnight &#8211; every one hour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xp1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"x_xs1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><b>MUST DO:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"x_xs1\">Have a boat tour around the island, wonderful waters 6 hours with 50\u20ac pp. I chose @<a href=\"https:\/\/www.diaploustravel.gr\/\">folegandros_diaplous_travel<\/a> . This way, you can visit the caves of the island like Chrysospilia and have stops in many of the beaches of the island. Depending of the wind, there are boat tours for the north side of the island or the south(the most common).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_xp1\"><span class=\"x_xs1\">Enjoy the stunning sunset in Church of Panagia. (15-20 minutes walk from Chora)<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"x_xs1\">Panagia is the largest church on Folegandros, dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary.
