Istanbul is magnificent! Either Sultanahmet, Taksim, Besiktas or Nisantasi if you want a high end neighborhood.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>DURATION:<\/strong> At least 4 days to take a taste and see the major highlights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>POPULATION:<\/strong> Istanbul will be crowded whenever you visit as it is a city that 16 million people live in (the whole population in Greece is 10-11 million people).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>CURRENCY:<\/strong> Turkish Lira.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>BEST SEASON to visit:<\/strong> All year long Istanbul is great, maybe spring, early summer and fall are ideal though! Last time I visited, was in June and it was absolutely perfect!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>PLUGS:<\/strong> 2 plug types, types C and F<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>ADVICE:<\/strong> Renting a car in Istanbul is not so easy as they drive like crazy and traffic can be very chaotic. I use uber\/taxis every time I am there since they are not expensive and I would recommend the same. For my transportation from\/to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.istanbulairportstransfer.net\/\">airport<\/a> I book online in advance (last time I paid around 55 euros) or call an uber (much cheaper than regular taxis)!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>FUN FACT:<\/strong> Istanbul lies directly on the border of Asia and Europe! Originally built as a Byzantine church in the 6th century, it later became a mosque, then a museum, and is now a mosque again\u2014though primarily visited as a historical site.<\/span><span class=\"x_s2\">\u00a0If you are Catholic, don&#8217;t miss the Church of St. Anthony of Padua, alternatively known as <strong>Sant&#8217;Antonio di Padova Church<\/strong> ,the largest Catholic church in Istanbul. Istanbul is home to over 3,000 mosques, the highest number in Turkey, and showcases some of the most impressive examples of Ottoman architecture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"414\" data-end=\"450\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Here are a few I highly recommend:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"451\" data-end=\"1139\">\n<li data-start=\"451\" data-end=\"537\">\n<p data-start=\"453\" data-end=\"537\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Sultanahmet Mosque (Blue Mosque) \u2013 perhaps the most famous after Hagia Sophia !<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"538\" data-end=\"690\">\n<p data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"690\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">S\u00fcleymaniye Mosque \u2013 the second-largest in the city, a true masterpiece by architect Mimar Sinan and one of the most iconic landmarks in Turkey. <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">Angel&#8217;s tip:<\/span> <\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Don&#8217;t miss it, trully impressive!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"691\" data-end=\"774\">\n<p data-start=\"693\" data-end=\"774\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Chora Mosque (Kariye Camii or in Greek: <em data-start=\"84\" data-end=\"101\">Moni tis Choras<\/em>). (If you have a tour guide, don&#8217;t worry &#8211; they will manage to avoid waiting).<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Entrance fee is 1,300 Turkish Lira for 2025 and it is open every day. <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">Angel&#8217;s tip: <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Don&#8217;t miss &#8220;The 2 Medusa heads&#8221; which is maybe the highlight of the place in the far corner of the cistern. It is housed in a palace complex that served as the administrative centre and residence of the imperial Ottoman court from about 1478 to 1856.
