A WEEKEND IN SKIATHOS ISLAND

Do you have only the weekend available & you want to visit an island in Greece with great options, delicious food & beautiful beaches? Skiathos is the answer!

Skiathos is a small island in Sporades island complex and to be honest, the most “cosmopolitan” of all there! I have been 3-4 times and it’s always great! Many bars and restaurants in the town with beautiful shops. Easy parking areas to leave the car & stroll around…

HOW CAN YOU GO?

Skiathos is accessible by:

  • plane from Athens or Thessaloniki airports GR
  • ferry/high speed ship from the port of Volos or Agios Konstantinos. You can book your tickets here: Ferryscanner.com
  • ferry from Thessaloniki port (only in the summer!)
  • if you are lucky, your country has direct flight to Skiathos, something very convenient!

I flew from Athens & landed in Skiathos in 30 minutes. That was so amazing!

HOTEL: Island is small but if you want to party at night and drink, better to pick a hotel/rooms close to Skiathos town. Otherwise plenty of options are outside but you certainly need a car.

TRANSPORT : You cannot find easily a taxi and while bus schedules are very often during the day I would recommend a car ideally or a motorcycle.

FOOD: good food in all the island and nice ice cream in “Angeliki” (yeah , same name like me!). I great meals  in the 2 below restaurants:

-Marmita restaurant in Skiathos town in an old house with a backyard. Totally recommended with reservations needed for sure, loved it!

-Infinity Blue, a 5* wonderful restaurant with a great view and perfect service. Ate an extraordinary lobster pasta. Angel’s tip: Make a reservation for a front row table with a view!

Infinity Blue restaurant

FAMOUS MUSEUM: museum of the famous Greek author Alexandros Papadiamantis who was born and raised in the island.

BEACHES: Island has more than 60 beaches. We visited the 3 first for the weekend we stayed there but you have so many great options!

Vromolimnos beach

  • Lalaria beach.
  • Koukounaries beach which is well organized with water sports and plenty of beach bars & the most famous of the island.
  • Vromolimnos, organized nice beach – 10 euros per set umbrellas , easy parking area.
  • Agia Eleni, full organized , many trees, sandy – 8-10 euros per set umbrellas.
  • Mandraki , dirt road to arrive , nice waters & quiet beach. A bit organized!
  • Ahladies, sandy & organized.
  • Be careful for beautiful Banana beach since you need 10 minute walk to arrive from parking area and umbrellas are only for hotel’s customers.

Lalaria beach

Absolutely must do: Tour of the island by boat basis weather permitting (so please check the weather before deciding the schedule you will follow in the island) and visiting Lalaria beach on the northeastern part of the island. A paradise pebbly  beach, with gorgeous white rock formations & crystal clear waters . Not organized at all, have water with you!  Angel’s tip: Go one day earlier, check all the boats, decide what vessel & which option you prefer and book it to avoid unavailability next morning.

Lalaria beach

By boat (easy to rent one as well) you can visit also Tsougria island in 20 minutes, few umbrellas and beautiful beach .Of course visits to Skopelos island are possible as well with organized tours.
